EMI stands for “Electromagnetic Interference”, also known as electrical noise. Thus, an EMI filter is used for noise suppression, and all modern designs include at least one. EMI can be in the wiring of a circuit or it can be radiated through the air (referred to as “RFI.”) EMI shielding and filtering is required by government standards.
