SuperSpeed (5Gbps) Connectors for USB Technology
USB connectors are going to be confusing until all but USB Type-C connectors are phased out. The "SuperSpeed" does not refer to the connector shape or type; it refers to the maximum speed and spec compliance to 5Gbps or 10Gbps. SuperSpeed is a USB 3.1 specified speed of either 5Gbps (USB 3.1 Gen 1, or SuperSpeed) or 10Gbps (USB 3.1 Gen 2 or SuperSpeed 10Gbps). The term "SuperSpeed Plus" may in the process of being phased out, but refers to the 10Gbps speed capability. There are some older-than-USB-Type-C(TM) style connectors that comply to the SuperSpeed 5Gbps specification( USB 3.1 Gen 1.)
