ams OSRAM UV-C with Heat Pumps
ams OSRAM UV-C with Heat Pumps enables effective disinfection of warm water reservoirs without requiring high-temperature cycles. Traditionally, reservoirs must be heated above 60°C once a week to eliminate Legionella, which is why conventional systems rely on high-energy-consuming built-in electric heaters. However, modern low-temperature heat pumps operate at system temperatures of 30°C to 45°C, which is sufficient for space heating but inadequate for Legionella control. As an alternative, UV‑C LEDs integrated into warm-water reservoirs provide effective disinfection without requiring elevated temperatures. UV‑C light inactivates microorganisms such as Legionella by damaging DNA, and the compact LED design enables seamless integration into heat pump architectures.
Systems like built-in electric heaters require approximately 200kWh/year to maintain the required disinfection cycles, whereas UV‑C disinfection requires only about 20kWh/year. This significant reduction in energy consumption leads to an overall increase in heat pump system efficiency of up to 10%. UV‑C LEDs provide effective inactivation of microorganisms while requiring much less energy and allowing systems to operate efficiently at lower temperatures.
