NXP Semiconductors , Amphenol, & Murata for EU Machinery Regulation

Prepare for the EU Machinery Regulation 2023/1230, effective from January 2027, with NXP, Amphenol, and Murata solutions. The regulation replaces the existing Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, and focuses on the increased connectivity and digitization found in industrial applications and factory automation.

To improve cybersecurity, new control electronics must follow the principle of secure-by-design, delivering secure boot operation, remote role-based access, data logging, and authenticated over-the-air updates for the lifetime of the product. These measures and tamper-resistant safety I/O prevent machines, such as PLCs, from attempts to force hazardous states or deliver undesirable outcomes.

Software and functional safety are becoming increasingly significant elements of the health and safety landscape. The importance of Performance Level (PL) and Safety Integrity Level (SIL) is emphasized to reduce risk further. These include putting a greater emphasis on delivering a robust Safety Requirements Specification (SRS), designing by subsystems, and treating software and firmware as safety components with traceable configuration, diagnostics, and EMI resilience.
