Enhance Control of Power Supply with Analog Devices' Digital Power System Management, Now at Mouser Electronics

This comprehensive series of power system manager ICs, DC/DC controllers with power system manager, and fully integrated µModule^® regulators enables engineers to digitally manage point-of-load (POL) power supplies, increase system reliability, optimize energy consumption, and reduce time to market.

Analog Devices Power System Management (PSM) devices, available from Mouser Electronics, allow designers to add capabilities like trimming (to +/- 0.25 percent accuracy), margining, sequencing, telemetry, and fault logging to existing power systems. Through a PMBus/SMBus/I²C-interface, the devices help engineers simplify and accelerate power system characterization, optimization, and data mining during prototyping, deployment, and field operation.

The power system managers allow engineers to trim to +/- 0.25 percent accuracy, margin, and monitor power supply outputs, enabling precise control of power supplies over time and temperature. The devices support autonomous operation with no coding required, while on-the-fly configuration adjustments ensure consistent performance tailored to the needs of the application.

DC-DC controllers with power system management boast a fast-analog loop for DC-DC conversion with digital telemetry and control. The PSM devices enable monitoring and data-logging of current, power, voltage, and temperature, helping designers to avoid failures by maintaining board health and predicting component aging. Each PSM device is configured and monitored through a PMBus/SMBus/I²C digital interface and supports multiple rails with a single product. The highly-integrated PSM devices allow designers to save board space, replacing complex circuitry with a compact solution.

The PSM devices are supported by LTpowerPlay^®, Analog Devices' engineering-level development environment that features a graphical user interface and support for up to 256 voltage rails. LTpowerPlay software provides excellent diagnostic and debug features, and becomes a valuable diagnostic tool during board bring-up to program or tweak the power management scheme in a system or to diagnose power issues when bringing up rails.
