onsemi BLUETOOTH® Asset Tracking

onsemi develops a range of advanced components that play a vital role in enabling and enhancing BLUETOOTH® Asset Tracking solutions. Bluetooth Asset Tracking is rapidly gaining traction worldwide as industries increasingly seek smarter, more efficient ways to manage assets and operations. This growth is fueled by technological advancements and the rising demand for real-time visibility across sectors. In smart cities, Bluetooth tracking enhances urban infrastructure and resource management. In healthcare, it enables precise patient monitoring and efficient asset utilization. Retailers benefit from improved customer experiences through indoor navigation and streamlined inventory control, while logistics operations gain from real-time supply chain tracking and optimization. Additionally, workplace safety is being strengthened through personnel monitoring and compliance tracking.

The technology’s appeal is further amplified by improvements in battery life, cost efficiency, and security, making Bluetooth solutions more accessible and dependable. A key innovation driving this momentum is Bluetooth Direction Finding, which uses techniques like Angle of Arrival (AoA) and Angle of Departure (AoD) to enable accurate indoor positioning. By integrating real-time location data into enterprise systems, organizations can gain actionable insights into material flow, space utilization, and customer behavior. With growing regulatory requirements and the expanding adoption of commercial asset tracking, Bluetooth Real-Time Location Systems (RTLS) are set to accelerate even further. Moreover, the automotive industry is embracing Bluetooth for secure, convenient access control, reflecting the broader trend toward digital transformation and smarter connectivity.

Bluetooth Asset Tracking with Direction Finding is a technology designed to enhance indoor positioning by leveraging the angles at which radio frequency (RF) signals arrive at or depart from a device. This system relies on two key methods: AoA and AoD. AoA determines the direction from which a signal is received using a fixed antenna array, while AoD identifies the direction from which a signal is transmitted from a fixed antenna array. The system typically involves two main components: a Tag, which is a mobile device equipped with a single antenna, and a Locator, which is a stationary device featuring a phased antenna array. By analyzing the directional data of RF signals between these components, Bluetooth Direction Finding enables precise tracking of assets within indoor environments.
